Warren Buffet Feels Like A Mosquito In a Nudist Colony?

There’s no such thing as a one-sided coin…

Yes, there are challenges all around. Yes, the economy has changed. And, that’s meant that the old rules simply don’t apply anymore. The old way we pursue opportunities, paths, needs and solutions have been forever altered.

So, you’ve got two choices…

  • Keep banging your head against the wall and trying to figure out how to force a now extinct paradigm to fit a new circumstance…or
  • Change what you’re doing.

Find the new pain points, discover the new needs, reveal the new desires. Uncover how the problems that people need solved have changed and work to find the revised points of maximum pain. Find the windows and opportunities that have been CREATED by this economy. Then…

Deliver a new solution that targets and solves those new problems at the points of maximum pain.

There is opportunity all around us. Even today. But, you’ll never find it wearing yesterday’s blinders.

And, if you don’t believe me, then maybe you’ll listen to one of the smartest investors and business thinkers on the planet, Warren Buffet, who in the just released Bekrshire Letter, shared about one of his major portoflio companies…

Tony and I feel like two hungry mosquitoes in a nudist camp. Juicy targets are everywhere.

Maybe it’s time to find the other side of the coin…

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am really tired of banging my head against the wall.

Change is tough, though, and really big change, transformative change, is one of the hardest things ever. We get stuck in our ways, and the little voice in our head that says ‘It’ll never work’ (like Eeyore) keeps us stuck.

    Thanks for the reminder!

  2. Mr Buffet always has a great way with words!

With the huge amount of turmoil around the world, his words are especially relevant. I see that the people/organizations who change, allowing themselves to move forward are able to avoid being run down by the economic equivalent of a Mack Truck.

Others are toiling away right in the path, doing what they have always done and when they look up they get stuck in the headlights of and get destroyed by the crashing economy!

“Find the windows and opportunities that have been CREATED by this economy. Then…” Jump through them and succeed!

    Great post Jonathan – Luke

Good visual and action points Jonathan.

One unrecognized advantage of small businesses is agility, like a mosquito. Technological, political and economic change is happening faster and with greater impact, as in global. Successful businesses will plan for change as part of a strategic business process to identify the next big opportunity and avoid being swatted.
