Have made all the mistakes and come to the same conclusions you do here. Except I wish I'd done mine in the water and not in business. Jumping in too early or being pushed to start is hazardous, but waiting around too long is more hazardous. Research is key, but too much is debilitating. Everywhere it seems to be about finding that little magic bit in the middle and mining it for everything it's worth.
