I'm not sure how I feel yet as a fairly new blogger. I have some conflicts with the bigger, more popular blogs since it's a bit like popular friends- there's no room for you in the crowd. I do not want to wade through 6 something or more comments yet I enjoy at least a few on each post so that I feel like someone is interested So- that said I guess I do it for the connection, that spark and that might interfere with any money making schemes. I hate the blogs where they've shut off all of their comments!!!

This was an interesting case study Jonathan.

What I tend to struggle with is wanting different options for different people.

Obviously my regular readers have already subscribed or bookmarked. So I don't care about making subscription options prominent to them. I care about making social media voting actions prominent for that group. But I also don't want to leave conversion of subscribers out for new readers.

What's your best advice for balancing this?

I read your post, and I have to say that you have some fantastic advice there. I don't think most bloggers realize that a layout can affect the actions readers take. What do you say to a person who hopes to elicit all three responses from their readers? Thanks again for the great tips!
